Recent early polls indicate Mitt Romney may be a major Republican Presidential contender. At present he is far ahead of other likely contenders namely Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, Ron Paul, Sarah Palin and others whose names have been advanced. No one has announced their intentions to run for the Republican nomination… but most are active in supporting candidates with appearances and money in other races.
Religion seems continually to dog Romney. The issue is; can conservative Christian voters reconcile the fact that he is an admitted active follower of the Mormon faith. One of the alleged tenets of the religion is Satin is God’s brother and the Book of Mormon is the third Bible. The religious issue is like the allegation that John Kennedy would take orders from the Pope if elected.
However Romney was elected Governor of Massachusetts a state with few Mormon’s and many Catholics and mainstream Protestants. It was also the home state of John Kennedy who had his own problems regarding his religion as said.
If handled right it will turn out to be a tempest in a teapot and will fade as an issue just like Barrack Obama put race to rest in his Philadelphia speech. After all we are all Americans, bound by mutal acceptance of the Constitution and the only real differences that matter are political interpretation, economic and social views, not religious preference.
